The potential of adipokines in identifying multiple trauma patients at risk of developing multiple organ dysfunction syndrome

Abstract Background Multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) and the consecutive multiple failure (MOF) are severe dreaded complications with a high mortality in trauma patients. The aim of this study was to investigate potential adipokines leptin, resistin, interleukin-17A interleukin-33 as possible biomarkers early posttraumatic inflammatory response for identifying severely traumatized patients at risk developing MODS. Methods In total, 14 an injury severity score (ISS) ? 16 well control group non-multiple were included blood samples taken time points 0, 6, 24, 48 72 h after admission. Finally, ROC curve analysis revealed that leptin suitable diagnostic markers discrimination without MOF. Conclusions Leptin could be identify injured earlier, adjust surgical therapy planning intensive care.
